The Blend
Our coffee blend is the result of our master roaster’s careful selection of the freshest and highest quality beans from Colombia, Brazil, and Honduras, among others. We roast and blend using an old family recipe that brings forward the aromas and full flavors of traditional Cuban espresso.
This careful blending and roasting of high-quality Arabica and Robusta beans, with our precise grind, allows for a thick and smooth “crema” in our espresso.
Whether you drink coffee in an espresso, café con leche, cortado, or anything else, Café La Carreta will allow you to enjoy each to the fullest, just like millions have enjoyed it in La Carreta restaurants for decades.
The bag is more specific about where the beans come from: Robusta from Vietnam, Ethiopia and Brazil, and Arabica from Colombia, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Honduras. Since 1976 the family’s restaurants have been serving cafecito across South Florida, and this is that same blend.
The Capsule
Compatibility. Nespresso® Original Line machines: Essenza, Pixie, CitiZ, Inissia, Lattissima and the rest of that family, plus Original Line machines from other makers. It does not fit Vertuo, which reads a barcode on the rim and spins the capsule.
Calibrate to 1.5 oz. The box is specific: for Cuban style espresso, set your machine to brew 1.5 oz (about 44 ml). That is a little longer than the Original Line espresso button, which pours around 1.35 oz out of the box. To set it, hold the espresso button down and release at 1.5 oz; the machine stores that volume.
Making it a cafecito. The pack recipe uses 4 teaspoons of sugar with 1 teaspoon of espresso beaten into it until it turns to a thick, caramel-colored foam, the espumita. That works from a capsule too: pull the shot, spoon the first teaspoon onto your sugar, beat it, then pour the rest in while stirring gently.
